🔬 Research Focus

The position focuses on studying the spatial organisation of protein–lipid clusters in neuronal and non-neuronal membranes using lipid bilayer native mass spectrometry (nMS).

The project aims to uncover how membrane-embedded protein–lipid assemblies regulate:

Cargo transport
Neurotransmitter release
Synaptic signalling
Cellular trafficking

The research integrates:

Native and top-down mass spectrometry
Membrane biochemistry
Biophysics
Cell biology
Computational and data-driven analysis

🧪 Project Scope

The work involves:

Reconstituting synaptic and non-synaptic proteins into defined lipid bilayers
Analysing model membranes and isolated neuronal vesicles
Correlating molecular-scale organisation with functional outputs
Studying how perturbations in membrane assemblies contribute to disease

This is an interdisciplinary opportunity at the interface of mass spectrometry innovation and membrane biology.

🎓 Eligibility

Applicants should hold a PhD in:

Biochemistry
Biophysics
Neuroscience
Cell Biology
Or a closely related discipline

(PhD typically awarded within the last 3 years.)

⭐ Desirable Experience

Protein purification and biochemical reconstitution
Hands-on mass spectrometry (preferred, not mandatory)
Cell biology and imaging
Membrane proteins and lipid bilayer systems
Vesicle biology
Fluorescence-based assays or microscopy
Integrating MS data with computational/biophysical methods (e.g., MD simulations)
Strong data analysis and scientific writing skills
