The Guan Lab at Indiana University Bloomington is recruiting highly motivated PhD students for Fall 2027 to develop next-generation biomedical devices, biosensors, and AI-enabled diagnostic systems.
The research aims to design accessible, affordable, accurate, and actionable diagnostic technologies, combining engineering, biology, medicine, biosensing, artificial intelligence, and advanced computational approaches to address real-world clinical and societal challenges.
๐ฌ What You’ll Work On
Biomedical Devices & Biosensors
Design and develop next-generation biomedical devices and biosensors for diagnostic and real-world healthcare applications.
Point-of-Care & Molecular Diagnostics
Develop innovative technologies for point-of-care diagnostics and molecular diagnostics, enabling rapid and accessible disease detection.
AI-Enabled Diagnostics
Apply artificial intelligence and machine learning to sensor data and diagnostic systems to improve the accuracy and performance of healthcare technologies.
Biothreat Surveillance
Contribute to the development of technologies for biothreat surveillance and monitoring, supporting rapid detection and response.
Smart Agriculture
Explore the application of advanced sensors and analytical technologies in smart agriculture and environmental monitoring.
Edge Computing & Data Analytics
Develop intelligent systems using edge computing, AI, and machine learning-based sensor analytics for real-time data processing and decision-making.
Advanced Technology Development
Gain experience with cutting-edge approaches, including:
- Microfabrication and nanofabrication
- Rapid prototyping
- Single-molecule sequencing
