The SynBioME Biofoundry at IIT Madras, funded by BIRAC, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, is inviting applications for the position of Project Scientist – I (Junior). This is an exciting opportunity for professionals passionate about synthetic biology, microbial engineering, bioprocess development, and biotechnology innovation to contribute to India’s next-generation bio-manufacturing ecosystem.
🔬 What You’ll Work On
Synthetic Biology & Microbial Engineering
Work on cutting-edge research involving synthetic biology, microbial engineering, and biotechnology-based applications.
Molecular Biology
Apply molecular biology techniques to support research, development, and optimization of biological systems.
Fermentation & Bioprocess Development
Work on microbial fermentation and bioprocess development, including optimization of processes for scalable biomanufacturing.
Downstream Processing
Contribute to downstream processing and analytical characterization of bioprocesses and products.
Bioprocess Optimization
Design, develop, and optimize bioprocesses with a focus on improving performance and scalability.
Technology Translation
Participate in interdisciplinary projects aimed at translating research outcomes into high-impact biomanufacturing solutions.
Laboratory Operations
Maintain laboratory operations and equipment while ensuring efficient execution of research activities.
Research Collaboration
Collaborate with researchers, industry partners, and interdisciplinary teams to advance innovative biotechnology projects.
🎯 Ideal Candidates
You hold an M.Tech. in Bioprocess Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
OR
You are a fresh Ph.D. in Biotechnology.
You have technical expertise in areas such as:
- Molecular biology techniques
- Microbial fermentation
- Bioreactor operations
- Downstream processing
- Analytical characterization
- Bioprocess development and optimization
Strong communication skills and a good publication record are desirable.
Candidates passionate about synthetic biology, biomanufacturing, and biotechnology innovation are encouraged to apply.
