The Systems Immunology Lab at Lund University, led by Asst. Prof. Camila Consiglio, is seeking a curious and driven Postdoctoral Researcher interested in experimental human immunology, women’s health, and systems immunology.
The project will investigate how the interplay between immunity, metabolism, and hormones influences women’s health, with a particular focus on reproductive and metabolic conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and immune–reproductive interactions during in vitro fertilization (IVF).
🔬 What You’ll Work On
Women’s Health & Experimental Immunology
The project aims to understand how the immune system is shaped by reproductive and metabolic factors in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
The successful candidate will contribute to research investigating the interaction between:
- Immune responses
- Reproductive health
- Metabolic factors
- Hormonal regulation
- Ovarian function
- IVF-related immune processes
🧬 Systems Immunology & Multi-Omics
The research will use complementary multi-omics and immunological approaches to characterize immune and molecular changes associated with women’s health.
Key approaches include:
- Bulk transcriptomics
- Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq)
- Proteomics using Olink
- Immunophenotypic profiling
- Flow cytometry
- Cell sorting
- Molecular biology techniques
The project will integrate these approaches to investigate the complex relationships between immunity, metabolism, and reproductive health.
🧪 Research Activities
The successful candidate will be involved in:
1️⃣ Experimental Human Immunology
Conduct experimental immunology studies using human samples and investigate immune responses associated with reproductive and metabolic conditions.
2️⃣ Immune Cell Analysis
Perform flow cytometry, cell sorting, and immunophenotyping to characterize immune cell populations and their functional properties.
3️⃣ Molecular & Omics Analysis
Work with:
- DNA/RNA extraction
- PCR
- Library preparation and sequencing-related workflows
- Bulk transcriptomics
- scRNA-seq
- Proteomic profiling using Olink
4️⃣ Immune–Reproductive Crosstalk
Investigate immune mechanisms associated with PCOS and IVF, including the interaction between immune, reproductive, metabolic, and hormonal factors.
5️⃣ Project Management & Scientific Collaboration
The postdoctoral researcher will also contribute to:
- Project management
- Scientific reporting
- Seminar and conference participation
- Teamwork
- External collaborations
🎯 Ideal Candidates
Applicants should have a strong background in experimental immunology and an interest in women’s health and omics-based research.
Candidates should have:
- A PhD in immunology, women’s health, or a related field.
- Recently completed their PhD or be currently finishing their PhD.
- Experience with experimental immunology methods.
- Strong interest in human immunology and women’s health.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Strong scientific communication skills.
⭐ Essential & Desirable Skills
Experience with the following techniques is particularly relevant:
- Flow cytometry
- Cell sorting
- Handling and culturing primary immune cells
- DNA/RNA extraction
- PCR
- Library preparation and sequencing workflows
- Experimental immunology
Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis and programming is not required, but will be considered a merit.
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are expected.
