The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Oklahoma State University is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Patrauchan Laboratory. The position focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms by which calcium signaling regulates cell differentiation and biomineralization during biofilm development in the human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The appointment is full-time for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal for two years based on performance, scholarship, and academic collaboration.
🔬 What You’ll Work On
Calcium Signaling & Biomineralization
Conduct independent and collaborative research investigating the molecular mechanisms of calcium signaling, cell differentiation, and biomineralization in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Biofilm Research
Study the role of calcium signaling and biomineralization in biofilm development and bacterial physiology.
Molecular & Genetic Mechanisms
Investigate molecular and genetic pathways involved in bacterial physiology using modern molecular biology approaches.
Laboratory Research
Conduct experiments involving:
- Molecular cloning
- Bacterial physiology
- Transcriptomics
- Microscopy
- Molecular biology techniques
- Biochemical characterization
Scientific Collaboration
Participate in laboratory meetings, departmental seminars, and collaborative research activities, while contributing to scholarly publications.
Student Mentoring
Assist with mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to the development of new research directions.
Grant Development
Contribute to grant proposals and help develop future research initiatives within the laboratory.
🎯 Ideal Candidates
Applicants should have:
- A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated research experience in bacterial physiology and genetics.
- Experience with molecular cloning, transcriptomics, and microscopy.
- Evidence of research productivity appropriate to their career stage.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and scientific communication skills.
- A commitment to rigorous, ethical, and reproducible research practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Experience in recombinant protein work.
- Experience in biochemical characterization.
- Strong scientific communication and mentoring skills.
