The Tumor Biochemistry Group led by Prof. Dr. Elmar Wolf at the Biochemical Institute, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) is seeking highly motivated and talented scientists interested in pursuing a PhD in the natural sciences with a medical focus.
The research group focuses on developing PROTACs (Proteolysis-Targeting Chimeras) as novel therapeutic approaches against cancer, combining molecular genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, and cancer models.
The research is supported by an ERC (European Research Council) or German Cancer Aid funded project and offers an interdisciplinary environment with collaborations across the Kiel research community.
🔬 What You’ll Work On
PROTACs & Cancer Therapeutics
Investigate PROTACs as innovative therapeutic strategies for targeting oncogenic proteins and developing novel approaches against cancer.
Tumor Biochemistry
Study molecular and biochemical mechanisms involved in tumor development and cancer progression.
Molecular Genetics
Apply molecular genetic approaches to investigate the function and regulation of oncogenes and cancer-associated pathways.
Biochemistry & Cell Biology
Use biochemical and cell biological approaches to characterize molecular mechanisms and therapeutic targets in cancer cells.
Cancer Models
Work with relevant cellular and cancer models to evaluate molecular mechanisms and potential therapeutic strategies.
Interdisciplinary Research
Contribute to research at the interface of molecular genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, and cancer biology within an international and collaborative research environment.
🎯 Ideal Candidates
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Highly motivated and eager to pursue a PhD in the natural sciences with a medical focus.
- Recently completed or about to complete a Master’s degree in:
- Biochemistry
- Molecular Biology
- Cell Biology
- Bioinformatics
- Or a related field
- Excellent written and spoken English skills.
- Strong motivation to conduct research in tumor biochemistry and cancer biology.
- Ability to work effectively with young researchers in an international and collaborative team.
- German language knowledge is desirable but not required.
