The Department of Economics at the University of Bergen is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position for a fixed-term period of four years. The position is designed to support independent research, academic development, teaching, and qualification for future academic positions.
The successful candidate will strengthen the Department’s existing research and education profiles while actively contributing to its academic environment.
🔬 What You’ll Work On
Independent Economic Research
Conduct an independent research project in economics and develop high-quality research with strong potential for publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
Research Publications
Publish research in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the Department’s research profile through high-quality academic work.
Academic Collaboration
Participate actively in the research environment at the Department and collaborate with researchers and faculty members across relevant areas of economics.
Teaching & Supervision
Contribute to teaching and supervision at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. The normal teaching load is one course per year.
Academic & Administrative Activities
Participate in other academic and administrative tasks at the Department and contribute to common departmental activities.
Career Development
The four-year appointment includes 25% career development work at the Department, supporting the candidate’s qualification for future academic positions.
🎯 Ideal Candidates
You hold a Norwegian PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Economics, or have submitted your doctoral thesis for assessment before the application deadline.
The PhD must be awarded before the date of commencement of the position.
You have a strong academic background in economics and demonstrated research potential.
Particular emphasis will be placed on documented research quality, including:
- Publications in good international peer-reviewed journals
- Papers with revise-and-resubmit status
- Completed article drafts with strong publication potential
You are able to work independently and in a structured manner while collaborating effectively with others.
You have proficiency in written and oral Norwegian and/or English. Knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage.
