InversoLab at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, is inviting applications for PhD and Postdoctoral positions within the ERC Consolidator Grant project CONNASHION (2025–2029).
The research project, “Vascular Control of NASH Progression (CONNASHION),” investigates how the liver vasculature controls the progression of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and how vascular dynamics interact with immune and metabolic processes during liver disease progression.
🔬 Project Title
Vascular Control of NASH Progression (CONNASHION)
The project focuses on understanding how vascular zonation and endothelial–immune interactions influence the progression of NASH.
NASH is a complex liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, fibrosis, and potentially cirrhosis. The project aims to investigate how changes in the liver vascular environment and lobular architecture contribute to disease progression.
The research will integrate murine models of diet-induced NASH with human samples, advanced imaging, and spatial multi-omics approaches.
🔬 What You’ll Work On
🫀 Liver Vascular Biology
Investigate the role of the liver vasculature in regulating liver homeostasis and disease progression.
🧬 Liver Lobule Zonation
Study the spatial organization and vascular zonation of the liver lobule and how this organization changes during NASH progression.
🧪 NASH & Liver Pathobiology
Investigate the mechanisms underlying non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, including changes in vascular architecture, inflammation, and tissue organization.
🔬 Endothelial–Immune Crosstalk
Study communication between endothelial cells and immune cells and its contribution to liver disease progression.
🐭 Murine NASH Models
Use diet-induced NASH mouse models to investigate vascular and pathological changes associated with different stages of disease.
🧫 Human Samples
Analyze human liver samples to investigate the relevance of findings obtained from experimental models.
🔬 Advanced Imaging
Apply advanced imaging approaches to characterize vascular structures, cellular interactions, and spatial changes within diseased liver tissue.
🧬 Spatial Multi-Omics
Use spatial multi-omics technologies to investigate molecular and cellular changes while preserving their spatial context within the liver.
📊 Disease Progression Analysis
Correlate vascular dynamics and spatial molecular patterns with different stages of NASH progression to identify mechanisms and potential diagnostic or therapeutic opportunities.
