🧬 About the Project

The Sankar Lab at IIT Gandhinagar invites applications for an Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow to work on plant genome editing using CRISPR-Cas systems, with a focus on mustard (Brassica).

The project aims to:

Enhance oil content, yield, and stress resilience
Develop and apply multiplex genome editing strategies
Translate genome editing research into agronomically important traits

This is a high-impact role combining molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, and phenotypic analysis.

🔬 Key Responsibilities

Design and execute multiplex CRISPR-Cas constructs targeting multiple genes
Develop and optimize Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation protocols
Perform molecular characterization of edited lines (PCR, sequencing, qRT-PCR)
Conduct phenotypic analysis under controlled and field conditions
Manage greenhouse and laboratory workflows
Train graduate students and interns
Contribute to high-quality peer-reviewed publications
Collaborate on experimental design and data analysis

🎯 Desired Expertise & Skills

Strong experience in CRISPR/Cas genome editing
Background in plant molecular biology and genetics
Experience with polyploid crops or oilseed crops (highly desirable)
Familiarity with plant developmental biology
Exposure to live-cell imaging or advanced microscopy (desirable)
Experience using open-source bioinformatics tools & databases
Strong scientific writing and presentation skills

🎓 Eligibility Criteria

PhD in Plant Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Genetics, or a closely related discipline
Demonstrated publication record in genome editing (first-author papers preferred)
Strong technical skills in molecular biology, genetics, computational biology, and bioinformatics
Minimum academic performance:
- ≥60% or equivalent grade from graduation onwards
- ≥55% or equivalent in Class 10 and 12

💰 Remuneration

₹72,000 – ₹84,000 per month (consolidated), depending on experience
