The Laboratory of Natural and Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) at the Institute of Computer Science, University of Göttingen, led by Alireza Modirshanechi, is recruiting a fully funded Postdoctoral Researcher to join its young and growing interdisciplinary research group.
🔬 What You’ll Work On
Cognitive Science & Human Control
Investigate how people differ in how much control they feel over their lives and how humans make intelligent decisions.
Human–AI Interaction
Study how interactions between humans and AI agents shape perceptions and experiences of control and agency.
Machine Learning & AI Agents
Explore how intelligent AI agents can seek, maintain, and expand control over their environments.
Computational Modeling
Develop and apply computational models to understand intelligent decision-making in both biological and artificial systems.
Interdisciplinary Research
Work at the intersection of cognitive science, behavioral experiments, computational modeling, and machine learning, contributing to a unified science of control in humans and machines.
🎯 Ideal Candidates
Candidates should have:
- A PhD or near completion with a strong research and publication record in a related field.
- A background in areas such as cognitive science, psychology, neuroscience, computer science, mathematics, physics, or electrical/computer engineering.
- Strong analytical and computational skills, particularly for Machine Learning and preferably Cognitive Science.
- Experience with computational modeling and, ideally, experimental design.
- Strong skills in statistics, data analysis, and programming.
- Interest in working across disciplinary boundaries and learning methods outside their primary area of expertise.
- Curiosity, creativity, independence, and a collaborative mindset.
The lab notes that these are general guidelines rather than strict criteria, and applications will be evaluated holistically based on research fit, potential, and relevant experience.
