The Mukherjee Lab at Texas State University is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on malaria pathogenesis, with an emphasis on membrane protein biogenesis in Plasmodium falciparum. The project will begin in Spring 2027 and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on parasite biology and antimalarial drug discovery.
🔬 What You’ll Work On
Malaria Pathogenesis Research
Investigate the molecular mechanisms regulating intracellular trafficking of transmembrane proteins in Plasmodium falciparum.
Molecular & Cellular Biology
Study membrane protein biogenesis using advanced molecular and cellular biology approaches.
Advanced Experimental Techniques
Apply genetic manipulation, protein biochemistry, and advanced fluorescence microscopy in parasite research.
Collaborative Research Activities
Participate in project development, manuscript preparation, grant writing, and mentoring undergraduate researchers.
Drug Discovery Research
Contribute to research that may identify new therapeutic targets for antimalarial drug development.
🎓 You’re a Good Fit If
You hold a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
You have a strong interest in molecular parasitology, infectious diseases, and interdisciplinary biomedical research.
