The Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP) at the University of Tübingen is inviting applications for a PhD Student Fellow position focused on understanding how plant stem cell niches coordinate their patterning with overall plant size.
The project uses maize as a model system and combines quantitative imaging, developmental genetics, single-cell transcriptomics, and spatial transcriptomics to uncover the mechanisms regulating stem cell niche patterning.
🔬 What You’ll Work On
Plant Stem Cell Niches & Pattern Scaling
Investigate the principles that coordinate stem cell niche patterning with tissue and plant size, using maize as a model organism.
Quantitative Imaging
Apply advanced quantitative imaging approaches to study developmental patterns and stem cell organization within plant tissues.
Developmental Genetics
Explore the genetic mechanisms underlying plant development, stem cell niche organization, and pattern scaling.
Single-Cell & Spatial Transcriptomics
Use cutting-edge single-cell and spatial transcriptomics approaches to investigate cellular and spatial patterns of gene expression.
Maize Development
Work with maize to understand how developmental programs regulate stem cell niches across different scales.
🎯 Your Role
The appointed PhD researcher will contribute to:
- Investigating mechanisms coordinating stem cell niche patterning with plant size.
- Studying plant developmental processes using maize as a model system.
