The Biocenter LMU Munich is inviting applications for a 3-year PhD Candidate Position in Molecular Biology of Cyanobacteria. The position is part of the Emmy Noether-funded project “Metabolic Foundation of Developmental Transitions” led by Dr. Sofia Doello. The research focuses on understanding how cyanobacteria adapt their metabolism under nutrient limitation using molecular, biochemical, and physiological approaches.
๐ฌ What You’ll Work On
Molecular Biology of Cyanobacteria
Investigate the metabolic regulation of the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6308 under environmental stress conditions.
Molecular & Biochemical Research
Create and characterize mutant strains, perform enzyme purification, and investigate regulatory mechanisms controlling metabolic adaptation.
Genomics & Data Analysis
Analyze Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) datasets to understand metabolic and developmental transitions.
Scientific Communication
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at international scientific conferences.
Student Mentorship
Support and supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students in laboratory research projects.
๐ You’re a Good Fit If
You hold a Master’s degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related Life Science discipline.
You have previous research experience in molecular biology.
You possess excellent English communication skills.
Experience in cyanobacteria cultivation, gene editing, protein purification, or enzymatic assays will be an added advantage.
