๐ฌ Research Focus & Responsibilities
The Plant Phenomics Lab is seeking a highly motivated graduate student to work at the intersection of plant science, engineering, remote sensing, data science, and artificial intelligence.
- Develop and apply remote sensing, high-throughput phenotyping, computer vision, and artificial intelligence to address breeding and production challenges in specialty crops, including vegetables, fruits, turf, and ornamentals.
- Develop integrated phenotyping workflows that connect crop stress detection, machine-learning-based trait extraction, automated image-to-database pipelines, and data-driven decision support.
- Collaborate effectively with plant breeders, crop scientists, engineers, and computer scientists.
- Conduct dynamic research involving greenhouse, field, and computational components.
๐ Preferred Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. degree in an engineering track (e.g., agricultural and biological, electrical and computer, biosystems, computer science, data science) or a plant track (e.g., crop science, agronomy, horticulture).
- Strong interest in digital and high-throughput phenotyping, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence.
- Experience with one or more programming or analytical environments, such as Python, R, or MATLAB.
- Desirable (but not required) experience with image analysis, geospatial data, UAV operations, spectroscopy, databases, or AI model development.
- Agricultural domain experience is highly desirable for applicants coming from an engineering background.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Availability and legal authorization to study in the U.S. at the time of application.
