Uppsala University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join an interdisciplinary leukemia/TP53 research program. The project focuses on understanding how specific TP53 alterations influence leukemia cell behavior, treatment response, and resistance, using genetically defined leukemia models and advanced experimental and computational approaches.
The successful candidate will work at the intersection of molecular and cellular cancer biology, CRISPR-based genome editing, therapeutic profiling, imaging, and computational analysis to investigate TP53-driven mechanisms relevant to precision oncology.
๐ฌ What You’ll Work On
CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing
Build genetically defined, isogenic leukemia cell models representing different TP53 states, including:
- Wild-type (WT)
- Heterozygous
- Homozygous
- TP53-null models
Functional Cancer Biology
Investigate how different TP53 alterations affect:
- Proliferation
- Cell-cycle control
- Apoptosis
- Senescence-like states
- DNA-damage responses
- Genomic stability
- Stress adaptation
Therapeutic Profiling
Study leukemia responses and resistance mechanisms to different therapeutic strategies, including:
- Chemotherapy
- Venetoclax-based combinations
- Hypomethylating agents
- DNA-damaging agents
- Irradiation
- Targeted therapies
High-Content Imaging & Computational Analysis
Apply high-content imaging and quantitative analysis to investigate cellular phenotypes and contribute to the development of computational approaches for TP53 variant classification.
๐ฏ Your Role
The appointed researcher will be responsible for:
- Developing and characterizing genetically defined leukemia models.
- Performing CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing and validation.
- Studying the functional consequences of specific TP53 mutations.
- Conducting molecular and cellular assays to investigate leukemia phenotypes.
- Performing proliferation, cell-cycle, apoptosis, senescence, and DNA-damage assays.
- Investigating cellular responses to therapeutic treatments.
- Conducting therapeutic sensitivity and resistance profiling.
- Performing high-content imaging and quantitative image analysis.
- Contributing to computational and machine-learning approaches for TP53 variant classification.
- Applying appropriate experimental controls and maintaining rigorous laboratory documentation.
- Collaborating with molecular geneticists, bioinformaticians, and clinical collaborators.
- Analyzing experimental data and contributing to scientific interpretation.
- Preparing manuscripts, presentations, and research reports.
- Contributing to the development of new experimental and computational approaches in precision oncology.

Applicants should have:
- A PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, cancer biology, hematology, genetics, genomics, or a related field.
- Strong expertise in molecular and cellular biology.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and cellular assays.
- Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing is highly desirable.
- Experience in leukemia, cancer, hematopoietic, or related disease models is advantageous.
- Knowledge of functional genomics and/or computational biology.
- Experience with molecular and cellular assays.
- Familiarity with high-content imaging and quantitative analysis is advantageous.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and scientific communication skills.
- Ability to contribute effectively to interdisciplinary research projects.
Experience in leukemia or hematopoietic models, CRISPR-based editing, cancer genomics/transcriptomics, image-based analysis, or computational biology is particularly welcome.
