The Jia Cassano Lab in the Department of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, at the University of New Mexico is seeking highly motivated and self-driven Postdoctoral Fellows to join its research team.
The laboratory studies how cells sense and respond to cellular stress, with particular emphasis on lysosomal damage, stress-induced biomolecular condensates, and their regulation. The research aims to understand how these cellular responses influence human disease.
The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment at the intersection of lysosome biology, cellular stress responses, biomolecular condensates, and human disease.
๐ฌ What You’ll Work On
Lysosomal Damage & Cellular Stress
Investigate how cells sense and respond to lysosomal damage and understand the molecular mechanisms underlying cellular stress responses.
Biomolecular Condensates
Study how stress-induced biomolecular condensates form and are regulated within cells.
The research will explore how these condensates contribute to cellular adaptation and disease-related processes.
Genome Editing
Apply genome-editing approaches to investigate genes and molecular pathways involved in lysosomal biology and cellular stress responses.
Protein-Protein Interactions
Investigate protein-protein interactions involved in cellular signaling, organelle biology, and biomolecular condensate formation.
Live-Cell & High-Resolution Imaging
Use live-cell and high-resolution microscopy approaches to visualize cellular processes and investigate dynamic responses to stress and lysosomal damage.
Genomics, Proteomics & Cellomics
Integrate genomics, proteomics, and cellomics approaches to connect cellular stress responses with mechanisms underlying human disease.
๐ฏ Your Role
The selected Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in cell and molecular biology.
- Investigate cellular responses to lysosomal damage.
- Study the formation and regulation of stress-induced biomolecular condensates.
- Apply genome-editing approaches to investigate cellular pathways.
- Investigate protein-protein interactions and cellular signaling mechanisms.
- Perform cell culture and molecular biology experiments.
- Apply microscopy and live-cell imaging approaches.
- Analyze genomic, proteomic, and cellomic datasets.
- Design, analyze, and publish observational studies.
- Develop research proposals and contribute to ongoing research projects.
- Interpret experimental results and communicate scientific findings.
- Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team.
