PhD Position – Aortic Wall Growth & Remodeling Following LVAD Implantation | Mines Saint-Étienne, France
Institution: Mines Saint-Étienne – Center for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering (SAINBIOSE INSERM UMR 1059)
Location: Saint-Étienne, France
Position Available: Fully Funded PhD Position
Research Area: Biomechanics | Computational Modeling | Cardiovascular Engineering | Biomedical Engineering
Mines Saint-Étienne is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on predicting aortic wall growth and remodeling following Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantation. This interdisciplinary project combines biomechanics, fluid-structure interaction (FSI), computational modeling, and cardiovascular research to improve LVAD performance and optimize patient outcomes.
🔬 What You’ll Work On
Develop computational models to predict aortic wall growth and remodeling after LVAD implantation.
Build growth and remodeling (G&R) frameworks incorporating LVAD-induced mechanical loading.
Integrate fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulations and advanced blood rheology models.
Validate computational models using in vivo imaging and histological data.
Optimize LVAD placement and operating conditions to reduce adverse aortic remodeling.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams specializing in biomechanics, cardiovascular engineering, and biomedical research.
🎓 You’re a Good Fit If
You have a background in Mechanics, Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
You are interested in computational modeling, biomechanics, cardiovascular mechanics, or medical device research.
You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
You are motivated to conduct interdisciplinary research with real-world clinical applications.
🌟 What You’ll Gain
A fully funded 3-year PhD position starting in Fall/October 2026.
Work on cutting-edge cardiovascular biomechanics and computational modeling research.
Collaborate with leading researchers across multiple French research institutes.
Opportunity to contribute to innovative LVAD technologies and publish high-impact research.
